Range: $80KPerform mechanical and electrical work on a broad range
of high-value classic Mercedes-Benz pre-war and post-war
multimillion-dollar vehicles for VIP clientele. Lead the
restoration process from start to finish, including the
restoration/rebuilding of all vehicle mechanical and electrical
components and systems, including, but not limited to, engine,
transmission, axles, suspension, brakes, and wiring harnesses, all
executed to correct factory specifications and quality
standards.Responsibilities
- Perform evaluations on a diverse, multi-million-dollar range of
classic Mercedes-Benz vehicles spanning decades (1950's to 2000's)
of production to determine the need for repair/restoration of
mechanical and electrical systems, including discovery of failed
(sub-standard) prior repair/restoration work.
- Develop and recommend period correct repair solutions where no
published repair documentation is available, using expert knowledge
of vintage Mercedes-Benz mechanical and electrical systems.
- Recommend replacement of components where parts availability is
present and recommend best course of action when replacement parts
are not available.
- Recommend processes/actions for an effective, long-lasting, and
efficiently performed repair to management as the basis for a
customer Repair Order.
- Comprehensively photograph and inventory vehicle condition
pre-restoration and during restoration process for future reference
and archive.
- Perform mechanical and electrical vehicle repair/restoration
work applying acquired expert knowledge of repair methods in use
both historically and present day.
- Carefully and competently disassemble and restore deteriorated
components, returning irreplaceable components to as-new
condition.
- Assemble mechanical and electrical systems within specification
and quality standards.
- Fine-tune/service engines/components by using tuning tools such
as an Engine Timing Light, Vacuum Test Kit, Air/Fuel Mixture
Sensor, as well as Mercedes/Bosch specific equipment, including
Mechanical Fuel Injection, Alternator and Starter Test
Benches/Fixtures.
- Test drive and reassess work performed ensuring that vehicle is
performing per required standards and customer expectation.
- Finalize completed work to a delivery-ready condition as the
final step in the restoration process.
- Perform all vehicle repair/restoration work steps within
estimated labor times and consult with management to verify in case
of deviation.QualificationsTechnical
- Must have a minimum of 10 years of professional work experience
in the mechanical and electrical repair of classic vehicle systems
and components with a demonstrated portfolio of
accomplishments.
- Must have expert knowledge of legacy Mercedes-Benz Tools and
Equipment as well as standard automotive industry specific service
tools/equipment to disassemble/reassemble components and
systems.
- Must have expert competency in utilizing machining equipment
including, but not limited to: Lathe, Mill, Drill Press.
- Must be an expert user of automotive diagnostic tools
including, but not limited to fuel injection system test bench,
smoke leak detection system, SUN ignition distributor test bench,
fuel injection nozzle tester, multi-meter, battery load tester,
pressure calibration kit, dwell angle meter, compression tester,
and other measurement devices to determine condition of various
mechanical and electrical systems as the basis for determining a
recommended repair/restoration approach.
- Must be an expert user of vehicle alignment tools and
equipment.
- Must be an expert user of brake service equipment.
- Must be an expert user of wheel/tire service equipment.
- Must be an expert user of automotive hand and power tools such
as torque wrenches, grinders, drills, and jacks.
- Expert proficiency in the following repair techniques is
required: brazing, silver soldering, and MIG welding.
- Must have the fine mechanical technical skills needed to
carefully disassemble/reassemble irreplaceable vehicle components
without causing harm and jeopardizing reuse.
- Must be able to read/interpret complex technical
drawings/blueprints of original factory specifications, where
available.Process
- Must be able to plan and perform repair and restoration work in
an efficient, and cost-effective manner.
- Must be able to document repairs properly including generation
of repair stories and photography for vehicle repair file.
- Must be proficient in all relevant safety procedures when
dealing with various materials including those that are classified
as hazardous, how those materials behave when being
worked/processed, and must follow established safety procedures
pertaining to work performed.
- Must apply expert knowledge and experience in safe work
practices in an automotive workshop environment including, but not
limited to actions involving lifting and lowering vehicles and
their components.
- Must maintain a safe, clean, and organized workshop environment
in accordance with OSHA, where applicable, including usage and
maintenance of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).Basic
- Must maintain active driver's license.
- Must be able to work flexible hours/work schedule.
- Must be able to work overtime and weekends when required.
- Must maintain an organized and clean work environment to
benefit safety and efficiency in the workshop environment.
